Primary Activities: Field work, modeling

Project Summary:Qualitative data on streambank stability has been collected in numerous watersheds throughout Western New York.  Many stream reaches have been classified as having poor bank stability.  REU students will perform geomorphological field work (e.g., stream channel surveys, sediment sampling) at some of those reaches to collect the physical data needed to model streambank stability.  This work will quantitatively define streambank stability and help determine if the qualitative assessments of streambank stability were accurate.

Skills/Courses Recommended: Basic knowledge of hydrology and fluvial geomorphology
